Devotion Prayer-Thursday, January 1st, 2026

Heavenly Father, You have created us in Your image to be Your instruments of love in the world. May we recommit ourselves to be blessings to everyone we meet in the coming year, confident that You will pour out Your grace into our hearts. Amen.

In these last days, not everyone who speaks religious words or holds a Bible is speaking the truth of God, which is why the Word warns us to be discerning; “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1, KJV). The Bereans were called noble because they did not blindly accept teaching, but “searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11, KJV). God never asks His people to follow personalities, titles, or emotions, but to test every message by His written Word, for “to the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20, KJV). Jesus Himself warned that false prophets would come in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves (Matthew 7:15, KJV).

A NEW BEGINNING

A new year brings new beginnings, new resolutions to improve.

“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,”
“Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,”

Oh my Benevolent and Caring Lord, how can I repay thee? Your kingdom has come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Incite a passion in me to spread Your Holy Word. I pray that I can do my part to aid others in finding and loving You. Jesus gave Himself for us, and I pray, loving God, that You assist me in giving myself to You. In Jesus' Name, I Pray. Amen.

This verse reminds me of when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son to prove that Abraham was faithful to Him. God sent His only begotten Son to die for us, a shepherd dying to protect His flock of sheep. Through His death and rebirth, we are able to live and understand why He lived and died for us. I must admit that I selfishly think about myself a tremendous amount, often neglecting to think of the ultimate sacrifice that Christ mad for you and me. I want to honor His sacrifice and this verse reminds me to do so more than any other.

Actually, the Studebaker was an antique when I bought it in '79. So I'm not as old as that post mighta made me sound. We might be close to the same age. Graduated in '80, joined the Navy, retired from the Navy in '01 and retired from civilian workforce in '23.

Now, when we meet up at Anon Reunion we can compare drivers licenses right before we toss them into the bonfire, because we don't lawfully need them to drive!

Now, just because it hand-crank started doesn't necessarily mean I was driving a Model T, Ya know.

In fact, when I started driving & wrenching, I was a LE MANS RACER even goin' to the grocery store, throw your head back acceleration smokin' tires n' all. Well, that about got my DL lost in a NY minute, so I sold off my hotrods and bought a 1968 Land Rover 4x4 that literally had a top speed of 55mph.

Needless to say I turned into a backcountry offroad rock-crawling fiend and DID get them points back on my license after a time. That truck was fitted with a HAND CRANK.

One winter's day my battery died in a parking lot. Fella parked next to me asked, "Do you need a jump?" I said "No thanks." Boy did he look puzzled as I pulled out the crank, slid it thru the bumper, spun it and VROOM. 😂

I did watch it to the end and cried. I was not sure if these people were chosen to participate or if they were volunteering for this event or something like that. I love this concept. This was especially tear jerking because our precious dog passed away in October and we are currently looking to rescue another precious pet. Thanks for sharing. 😇
