Some quick WINTER advice from Ol' Cowboy:

Make sure all your fireplace, wood stove, pellet stove & oil burner FLUES are cleaned out, so you never have a flue fire.

Also make sure your home heating furnaces are SERVICED, so they run well when it's below zero.

KNOW where your main water shut off is for your home. It's usually out front yard, but might be in your crawl space or basement. KNOW WHERE IT IS & TEST IT WORKS!
IF power goes out (and it can during ice storms) and you're afraid your home might freeze:
1) SHUT OFF the main water valve.
2) Open all spigots including sinks, outdoors & hot water heater to drain the system as best as possible.
3) Flush toilets and pour in some PINK RV anti-freeze (non-toxic) into toilet tanks, bowls, also sink drains so they don't crack.

Then, when power comes back on, turn on Main Water Valve SLOWLY while looking everywhere for signs of a ruptured pipe. If found, turn Main Water Valve back off and effect repairs FIRST.

Can save your home.

Maybe a CB or Ham radio (CBs at your local truck stop for ~$300)

Protect Children & Elderly 24/7.
