The Blessing of God's Presence

Some days, even in a full house, you can feel alone. With five kids running around in sunny Florida, there are moments when quiet feels rare, but sometimes, loneliness still finds its way in. I've had those nights where I wondered, "Lord, are You really here?"

That's why Christmas is so powerful to me. The manger reminds us of Emmanuel, God with us. Jesus came near, not to watch from afar but to walk beside us. When I slow down from the chaos of full schedules, I realize that His presence fill every space of my life, whether it's family laughter, shared meals, or those much-needed silent moments before dawn.

God, I'm so glad that You know what You're doing. You see the full picture when I only see part of it. Thank You for sending Your Son and teaching us me so much about Your Kingdom through His birth. Humble, accessible, pure. Today, I'm choosing to trust You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

TRUSTING GOD'S STORY

Imagine Mary and Joseph getting ready to become parents. They probably asked a lot of the same questions expectant parents do today: Is the baby healthy? Are we prepared to care for this child? Do we have what we need? Where will we have the baby? Are we ready for the birth?

Near the end of Mary's pregnancy, Caesar Augustus issued a decree that everyone within the Roman world return to their hometown for a census (Luke 2:1-4). This meant that Mary and Joseph had to leave their home in Nazareth to take the four-day journey to Bethlehem, the city of David, who was Joseph's ancestor.

Loving God, help us to say "yes" to You every day. Most of the time, we do not face a risk as Mary did, but sometimes we can be mocked by people who think being faithful to Christ is old fashioned or weak. The evil one, satan, is alive and well in our world. Help us to say "no" to him and "yes" to You. Amen.

AND SHE SAID "YES"

When Mary said "yes" to the angel, she wasn't sure what would be the consequences of her answer. A woman who was betrothed - a little more formal arrangement than our engagement - and found pregnant by someone other than her spouse, could have been stoned to death for adultery. What would Joseph say about her pregnancy? How would her friends and family react? What kind of risk was she taking? And what did the angel mean when she said that this child would be the "Son of God?" Mary still said "yes."
