God, thank You for being a good Father to me. Today, please show me how to honor You by honoring the people You've placed in my life. Show me how to selflessly serve others, and give me opportunities to encourage both the parents and kids You've placed in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

LOVING YOUR FAMILY

The word family can carry a lot of different meanings, depending on who you ask. But, the command to love your family comes straight from God.

In the Old Testament, the command to honor your father and mother was included in the Ten Commandments that God gave to Moses for the people of Israel:

"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." Exodus 20:12 NIV

As Paul, the author of Ephesians, is teaching the church in Ephesus about the implications of following Jesus, he repeats this command from the Ten Commandments. Paul knew that if we are to follow Jesus then we need to learn to love everybody, even those who are closest to us-and especially our own family.

Brothers and sisters, do not be afraid to share your beliefs with anyone at anytime. We do not deserve this disdain! We should not be afraid to say that we believe that Christ lived and died so that we all could be saved. God from this place with zeal, proclaiming that which you believe from the highest mountain. Remember this: let no man despise thee. Praise be to the Lord! For Him we will forever endure! Amen.

BY GOD'S GRACE WE ARE SAVED

I feel that Christians are under attack in modern society: the atheist movement claims that we are fools, unwilling to listen to logic and science; with Muslims we face a passionate group of believers and many feel that we are in opposition to one another; an aging population of believers and an inability to attract young people to the church leads us to the point where we are now, desperate and willing to try new methods to gain new believers of Christ. Why have we grown to be so despised? What teachings of Christ are so wicked that we deserve such scorn?

We need more than food and water to sustain life; we need each other. God blesses us with friends and family who share close relationships with us. When we need a shoulder to cry on or a friendly face to help us celebrate, they are there. When we need spiritual guidance or assistance in recovery, they are always near. God provides for us in ways we can't understand, and we are incredibly thankful for such a loving Heavenly Father.

The Holy Spirit is always on the move, directing us toward opportunities to share the Good News about our Lord and Savior. Countless moments during our day may be the perfect opening for a conversation about God; we have a few minutes at the grocery store, an afternoon with a co-worker, or a morning conversation with a friend at the park. The Holy Spirit called Philip to step into a carriage, and the curious Ethiopian became a new believer after the encounter.

Slowly re-read this passage. As you consider Jesus' Words, what stands out to you? What would it take for you to submit to God's will the way Jesus did? Allow God to realign your will with His will.

A PRAYER TO SEEK GOD

God, it's when I seek You that I find You. So today, help me to intentionally draw near to You. Give me the courage to shift my attention off of my circumstances and onto You. I want to rely on You completely by coming to You first-above anything else. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
