They actually wanted a massive field of slaves to do their bidding. These people are not only arrogant and evil - but stupid. Of course, Satan made a deal with them long ago to do his bidding. He promised they would have power, riches and eternal life. Only thing is - Satan neglected to explain where that eternal life would be spent. FYI Revelations 21st chapter:

The vast numbers of those who are wailing and shouting in the streets will be lost to Satan's dominion. While sorry for their tragic demise, each of them CHOSE the path they took.
