The story of Ishmael is very sad. He was also a son of Abraham by a handmaiden named Hagar. She was "ordered" by her mistress to submit to Abraham to give birth because Sarah was barren. But when her son was born, they were sent out of the encampment. Still the angel of the Lord assured Hagar that her son would also father a great nation.
