Okay I am upping my homesteading street cred with new home remedies to try...onion ginger cough expectorant syrup as a recommendation from a friend and antibiotic/anti viral garlic salve.
The onion syrup is for breaking up mucus and the garlic salve can be used for many things but the Be Your Own Dr book recommendation is to rub this on babies feet, forehead, and chest when they have a virus or for anyone who can't keep things down. It supposedly draws bugs out. We shall see.

Recipes
2 sliced onions
2 TBL Chopped ginger
Cover in honey
Cook over low heat until onions are soft for immediate use or let sit for 2 weeks. It gets liquidity.

8 cloves garlic
1/3 cup coconut oil
2 tbls olive oil
Blend
Store in fridge
It says to apply 4x a day. I believe it also keeps vampires away. We shall see
