Also agree with you here; it's good to attempt to "never go to sleep mad", but there are times when someone may need to "call a time-out". The issue in my marriage was that I was going to sleep fearful every night bc of the complete contempt and anger my ex had towards me and the kids. Sometimes, one is so far from a healthy relationship that "rules" or "best practices" have become obsolete, and it is merely mental and emotional survival.

Exactly correct! He was playing a chess game including manipulation, (mentally & emotionally),gaslighting, projecting, minimizing, and blatant lying. Honestly, if I had known about Saul Alinsky's book, "Rules for Radicals", I would have known his game plan, sadly.
