The geometry and design of the Sagnac interferometer (12) guarantee that all the time reversal–invariant effects (such as optical birefringence, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical vibrations) cancel out, and a nonzero signal θK appears only if the measured sample breaks the TRS.

Just skated on by that "time reversal–invariant effects" thing, at least for me (I'm treading deep water). But why would that even be in there?

Rotating ball graphic seems to show impedence, just opposite happens with Cesium, 300x & more increase in SOL. Light arrived before it left emitter (old news). Don't know if they did anything further with it, that was over 10yrs ago. They should have by now.
