I knew I had better be close enough to home to hear my Dad whistle 😊

The small town I grew up in had a whistle that blew at 9pm every night. That was the time everyone headed for home.

Same whistle was used to call in the fire department and ambulance crew in an emergency, it continued blowing until enough volunteers showed up at the fire station.

"When the street lights turn on, you better be home."

well not everybody wanted to habe mittens so frozen they were stiff. boots full of snow after hours of being outside in winter. come in to eat and back out again to do it again.. not my favorite day. liked being outside however. barefoot and in the sunshine.. that was a different story. and why i got away from the cold.
