There were assertions that some of it was used in summer 2023 Canada fires.

60,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate (NH_4NO_3) is equivalent to about 2,400 tons of TNT. However, the exact equivalence depends on the packing density and confinement of the ammonium nitrate.

• The TNT equivalence of ammonium nitrate-based explosives can range from 25% to 100%.

• The explosion efficiency of ammonium nitrate is about 40% of TNT. This means that 1 kilogram of ammonium nitrate releases the same amount of energy as 0.4 kilograms of TNT.

• When mixed with TNT, ammonium nitrate creates a highly explosive material called amatol.
