It was!

We had full operating kitchen classes... stoves, refrigerators, sinks.
"Home Ec"...
"Home Economics"

ALL boys had to take Home Ex and ALL girls had to take
"Shop". It helped many to decide their love for career. Either electrician, mechanic, etc., vocational school or university professional as nurse, doctor, etc.

Truly feel sorry for the generations that got the shaft and learned nothing from their parents or weren't taught to figure it out by themselves.

We had those classes too -- learned how to sew, and how to function in the kitchen. Still using those skills many decades later. 💛
