If this happens, AR, OK, KS, NE, SD, ND, WY, and ID would likely ask to join immediately. The central plains are fed up with economic and regulatory attacks on farming. Its worth noting that the major north south gas pipelines and trucking corridors are in these states to get goods (especially grains, livestock, and oil) to the Gulf.
US farmers have been buying seed and fertilizer at retail pricing whiles selling their products at wholesale for decades. It isn't a sustainable business model and they are slowly losing their family land to the banks and big ag.
Just like France, Germany, and the Netherlands; farmers will eventually start dumping manure on the capital steps.

Sadly, that's only mostly true, Kat. I live in a deep blue state and am married into a family who will still vote biden in the fall (assuming we have an election). One of my wife's friends actually went to a biden event last year. My wife asked if biden sniffed her hair. (I've never loved her more than at that moment.)
How the people around me can't see the corruption and treason is baffling. The indoctrination is very, very strong in academia. They've been told all their lives that they are the intellectual shining stars and cannot be wrong. Their egos have been inflated to the point that they can't see or tie their shoes.
