Do you recall the made for tv movie in 3 parts, the 'Quatermass Experiment', with John Mills - from the 70s?
The premise was, young people were becoming mind controlled, to gather in huge crowds in places like football stadia, then a green beam would harvest them - leaving nothing but ash.
