I have a super fast reaction time, so I would pull toward the barriers thinking I could stop before I hit it. I had someone run across the street once (hidden by the car next to me) while I was going 40-45 and when I saw him at the last second, I was able to turn away from him and although my car touched him, he wasn't hurt and happily continued on his way. I've actually pulled myself out of a few head-on collisions, or maybe someone was looking out for me.
