As you know, after studying law, Putin worked for the KGB with assignments in Germany, so he also speaks excellent German. During this time he became friends with G. Schröder, who later became Chancellor of Germany. After the latter refused German participation in the Iraq War ( which the population fully supported), he was nevertheless sawed off by the DS at the next election and replaced by A. Merkel. We know the consequences. Schröder and Putin have remained friends to this day.
