It adjusts your hormones to make your body believe that it's pregnant in an attempt to have you not ovulate (release a new egg). However, some people are more fertile than others & some have fluctuating levels of natural hormones &/or different months you can absorb different levels of a standard dose of The Pill (that's why doc's tell you to use an alternative method if they switch your pill to different brand/level of pill, even though you haven't missed a dose of hormines. Your body isn't exactly the same every month, but when you do get pregnant while on the pill & there is another/higher spike in hormones, the pill causes your body to see the "additional pregnancy" as a mistake & flushes your uterus, out of natural self-preservation. Outside of other uterus disorders, if you've ever had a "heavy flow" with clots...

Please read my reply to Karen Browning. It "helps" to stop ovulation - does not succeed every month. Just like with all meds, our body absorbs differently every month due to other health strains, diet & other meds we take. Did you know that you can get pregnant on the pill if you're taking antibiotics? Many doctors don't tell you/us how this actually works. My 1st child was conceived while I was on The Pill - bc I had been taking the pill for too many years & my body became immune to the effects. They don't even tell you that you aren't suppose to take it for longer than 3 years w/o a break from it.

You were told right. The pill prevents fertilization. They are right to end abortion. But, you see now they want to end contraception. Catholics believe any kind of contraception is wrong because it blocks fertilization which in their belief is the only purpose for sex. A priest explained it to me. This includes all porphylactics. The only method the Catholic church tolerates is the rhythm method.

No contraception is 100%. Catholic Church used to forbid the pill bc it can/does abort a pregnancy that occurs when ur on it. Unless nursing school books/teachers & college biology books are fake, it's just true.
