the benefit is, that battery can be short range, intended for ‘emergency glide’ which means it can necessarily be small with respect to the total energy needs of the plane. other benefit of batteries is that they do NOT have to be the typical shape that everyone imagines. a big cylinder/rectangle. the beauty of batteries is that they can be ‘fluid’ in where they’re placed and conform to shape; means that they can line the fuselage and occupy what would normally be dead space, and be used to optimize center of gravity.
