i feel you
in my heart
.
pumping through
my veins
.
each time
a gentle breeze
washes over me
.
every time
a soft and tender rain
nourishes the wildflowers
blooming in the spring
.
whenever i see
a child running wild and free
their laughter rising
like a kite upon the breeze
.
every time
a mother hugs her child
a father guides a son
with the example
of a job well done
.
each time
a grandparent
teaches a grandchild
how and why and where
we each come from
.
the triumphs of the past
the failures, the losses, the heartbreak
what has worked and what has not
.
this is the legacy
the foundation
upon which humanity
must stand
.
if it is to ever grow
beyond the tragedies
of the centuries past
.
we must know
who we are, where we come from
.
we must know
that we are one people
.
our differences
to be celebrated
.
