"Things" used to be built to last, to create jobs, to inspire people to become good at something, arts and crafts...
Lately it all became about consumerism, low quality stuff to throw away fast so you can have something new again...
It literally kills the pride one can take in knowing his deal, having experience, passion about something, anything really, from sewing a button to building a house....
