Their cows eat grass for a year then they will cage the cow, feed it corn to fatten it before slaughter.

In cold areas of the US most cattle raised for beef can not survive winter being only fed grass. If they did make it through winter, they'd be nothing but skin and bones by spring.
The heavy-coated Highlands may thrive on grass hay, Angus not so well.

I saw a farmer winter his cattle with only hay. He had round bales of hay in long rows covered in a shrink wrap.
After he cut the hay,
he left it to dry in the field, then came back days later with a machine that makes large round bales and shrink-wrapped them in the field.
Nifty machine.
Hard working, very serious folks when it comes to their cows. 👍
