was a Military Base during the Civil War,
was found to have hidden tunnels underneath,
& once incarcerated Al Capone, George ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly.

& James ‘Whitey’ Bulgar, who had spent 16 years on the FBI’s
10 Most Wanted until his capture in CA in June 2011.

Alcatraz holds 1,576 prisoners.

There had been many escape attempts from Alcatraz
but only 3 inmates supposedly successfully escaped:
Frank Lee Morris & brothers John & Clarence Anglin.
However, the men were never found, their families never contacted
& a Norwegian freighter stated they’d seen a body floating
20 miles W of the GG bridge 🤔

I grew up in Northern California. When I was in Jr. High in the 70's, our class took a field trip to Alcatraz for a tour. Fascinating!

They even locked us all up in individual cells for a few minutes. Glad they let us out! It was pretty creepy in there.
