Most people don't not understand the purpose of the Ark of the Covenant, nor it's contents. It represents the old Covenant. Another name for ark is coffin. The tablets of the Law were placed inside of it. It also contains a gold jar of manna, and Aaron's staff that budded. The ark and its contents declared the divine holiness by which all stand condemed and by its form (specifically the atonement cover) declared the divine redeeming mercy through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. It was placed in the Holy of Holies in the temple or tabernacle. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ ended the old covenant of law and brought in the New Covenant of Grace.
