My husband worked from 14 years old until 64 years old up until his death. Never collected SS because he didn't retire. That was a lot of money they kept. My dad collect SS at 62 died in 1981. The big problem is people collected in the 60's/70's but with inflation they were living below poverty...they could hardly afford groceries. When they would get a little increase, everything else went up as well which meant they still lived in below poverty. Then when you die (it does not matter which day of the month) they take BACK the SS check for that month. Mom lived until the 28th of September & they took September deposit back. They have you do direct deposit so they can easily go into your account. Greed

When Congress returns next week, lawmakers will have less than a month to pass the remaining nine appropriations bills funding federal agencies in fiscal year 2026.

Already, however, there are signs of further delay, with two Republican senators pledging to vote against the bill for Labor and Health and Human Services due to its inclusion of $5.69 billion for refugee assistance services.

The amount is less than the $6.3 billion that HHS’s Administration of Children and Families, which runs various refugee and asylee support programs, received in fiscal years 2024 and 2025.
