I was too afraid of my Dad to play like that and he wasn't abusive at all. If he slapped my butt 10 times my entire childhood that would be a lot. He just had a presence that kept me in line.

Sounds familiar. Small farm community in the thumb of Michigan. 1975-76. 8, 9 years old. The adults would give us cash to walk down to the country store. We'd buy 5 or 6 packs of cigarettes for them and get our selves each a bottle of pop with the change.
