My brother and I had measles together.
My mother tacked heavy blankets over the windows, because the advice at that time, the 1960s, was to have children stay in a darkened room.
Because bright light could cause blindness.
I remember it being a real boring time.
Measles was known as a childhood disease, probably because most people got it when young.
I also remember that whenever any of us caught a childhood disease - our mothers would deliberately expose us to the kid who was sick.
They wanted us to get all the childhood diseases.
And that was the way our mothers protected our future health.
