Scripture tells us Satan is the “Prince of this world” (John 14:30)
As Prince, Satan at(tempted) to offer Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in return for worship, to which Jesus declined & replied with “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Matt. 4:10)
1 John 2:15 tells us to “love not the world, nor the things of the world”
Since Satan is Prince of this world & “the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one,” we can see clearly why the Lord warns us of loving the world
That which is “of the world” not of God. What the world offers (riches, pleasures, etc.) is a weapon of the enemy intended to draw us away from the Lord
We cannot fall in love the world
We must forsake the world & its lusts. Granted, this isn’t always an easy task, which is why we must ask the Lord to lead us and strengthen us daily. The Spirit softens our heart
“Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh
