The Magi are the three wise men from the east. From the areas of Media, Persia, Assyria and Babylonia. It is very clear from Matthew's account that the wise men followed a star to Bethlehem to find the Christ Child. The magi were a Median Kurdish priestly tribe. Their religion was Zoroastrianism and in this particular religion they followed the Prophet Zoroaster and they called God by the name of Ahura Mazda and this particular religion required the practice of good thoughts, words and deeds, and the renunciation of evil. The magi were in awe as highly educated scientists and scholars who could interpret dreams and even control demons. The magi were alchemists and they were very skilled in astronomy, astrology, and the mystic arts.

They were enchanters and occultists and they were involved in divination activities which would be called sorcery. Matthew let's us know that the Magi are astrologers, sorcerers and wizards. The magi are specialists in the supernatural, experts in astrology, magic and divination. They possessed secret arcane knowledge. In fact, God used the magi as the recognition of the messiah and it is through the magi that all people recognize Jesus as the anointed one, (Matthew 2:1-23).
