I’ve read books from the 1700 to 1800s they all talk about bitters, was that quinine water??

Quinine is found in tonic water. I believe it's just a small amount tho.

Bitters are the bitter herbs including dandelion and chicory leaves. Used to be able to buy a bottle of bitter tonic.

Quinine water may also be a bitter tonic. Most of these old remedies were some sort of anti-parasitic. Parasites cause the majority of diseases, along with malnutrition, and toxins.
