As a kid while waiting in at a movie theater for someone to pick a friend and I up, I saw lightning hit a van sitting across the street. When it hit the van it split up and went around the van to the ground.
It looked much like your video... sort of pinkish in color, and the thunder was instant.

Makes me curious. From what I learned about lightening, which may be false, but anyway, lightening comes from the ground even though it looks like it's in the sky.
If that's true, maybe the thing to do is to figure out where the unusual lightening comes from, the air or the ground?
