Haven’t tried it yet, but will drop the leash and keep walking to see his reaction

I had a 10 pounder that I would not trust off leash. However one day the leash broke and I remained calm and kept walking at current pace. She did the same as she didn't know anything had changed. Then when she stopped to sniff something, I was able to pick her up.
