Yes, splitting the word random into "ran"(from the word run) and "dom" explains its true meaning. I really laughed now.
Word "random" has the same meaning in English as in Hindi, one of the oldest (maybe oldest only renamed) Indo-European languages. The word Hindi is of Persian origin and in Persian it simply means Indian.
