He planted 3 small seed potatoes per 5 gallon bucket.
Used 5 gallon food grade buckets can be found at restaurants & bakeries, often for free. Check grocery stores, donut shops, pizza places, etc -- any place making large quantities of food.

Been growing potatoes this way for a couple of years now... except just flip the buckets over, dump it all out and find the potatoes, can keep using the same bucket!
