Dr. Byrne: 'brain death' is the invention of the transplant industry.
This is to harvest organs from living people, where the brains are certainly not yet dead. Organs for transplants can only be taken from the living, not from the dead. So 'brain death' was invented to get organs from the living. These are immobilized during organ removal and given paralyzing drugs if they respond to pain.
