The genus Bacillus is a phenotypically large, heterogeneous collection of gram-positive or gram-variable spore-forming, aerobic or facultative anaerobic bacteria. Ubiquitous in nature, Bacillus includes both free-living (nonparasitic) species and two parasitic pathogenic species.
