Sounds to me like the swamp should be worried.

This recording does not prove that the documents in Trump's hand are classified (he says "off the record," "confidential," & "secret"), nor that the people he's talking to aren't allowed to see them.

The fact that incriminating classified documents could exist (and that he told a swamp creature he had them) could explain why they raided Mar a Lago… i.e., to remove evidence of Milley's treason.

Trump could have declassified the documents in his hand—yet claimed he didn't, which is no crime—because he wanted this recording to end up making the Milley plot admissible in court. Or he could be holding unclassified documents from a journalist or private-sector whistleblower. And whoever he was talking to may not know if the documents they saw were actually classified.

But in their zeal to nail Trump, we have a chance to learn that Milley & the Defense Dept were trying to start a war with Iran.

It didn't even have to come that far. It didn't have to be complicated. It didn't have to be a story that needs explanations, twists or turns or 4d chess. He was asked to simply return the documents.

The reason it didn't turn into a mess when Biden turned up having classified documents is because he just returned them. End of story.

Trump didn't do that, after being asked and urged and pressed repeatedly after he left office. True or not, claiming it's because, as he says, they were all over the place, mixed in with personal belongings, is a poor excuse and not a good look. It is pretty serious both legally and generally for a man who wants to look like he's bigliest, bestest and greatest at everything, all the time.

That doesn't even get to the other stuff like the claims that he flushed documents down the toilet, burned them, that a suspicious amount of US assets died overseas, that he shared classified info on Twitter or that Kushner somehow got 2 billion from the Saudis.

There are lots of unproven allegations in your comment that will have to wait for evidence to be released before a debate makes sense. (E.g., For years, they alleged Trump colluded with Russians to steal the election… but Durham found that Democrats colluded with Russians to steal the election from Trump.)

My comment was addressing that this recording does NOT prove what has been alleged. But it does suggest there's classified evidence of a high-level DOD plot to commit treason.

Yet, you are outraged over a technical dispute about where presidential documents are being securely stored. Where's your concern about a treasonous plot to start a war with Iran?

This recording essentially serves as a whistleblower claim against Milley and the DOD, and now Congress will face public pressure to investigate. Bravo to CNN for releasing it!

I suspect Trump's "obnoxious" behavior regarding the return of documents was intended to provoke the swamp to do precisely what they've just done.

Two things.

First, no clue where you're getting the idea from that I am outraged. I dislike Trump. That's not synonymous with outrage, and that doesn't change the fact that, which is where you're right, that these are allegations. I called them claims. I did not imply in any way that they are truth.

Second, I do think you're giving Trump too much credit. I don't give him that much benefit of the doubt, and I am genuinely clueless on why others insist on giving him the slip for the same things they want to see others hang for.

Sorry, fair point on my use of "outrage." Your dislike of Trump was clear, and it had me interpreting your comment through the wrong lens.

That said, I give Trump the benefit of the doubt because every time evidence ends up being vetted, he has been vindicated. They've told us for years that he was going down for this scandal or that crime. But in the end, he was exonerated.

This recording is an example. Pundits claimed for weeks they had irrefutable proof he admitted to keeping documents that hadn't been declassified. After listening to his words, I can see this doesn't prove what they claimed.

Since the moment he became candidate Trump, a cacophony of powerful forces all started screeching in unison. That got my attention. I'd never seen anything like it. They were afraid of him! I've watched with fascination ever since.

While his methods may be obnoxious; he's honest and is exposing the criminal schemes of the world's power brokers. I value that.
