In a unanimous ruling, the US supreme court says that human genes cannot be patented, as DNA is a product of nature. But the court said synthetically produced genetic material can be claimed as intellectual property.
US pharmaceutical companies had previously warned that banning DNA patents would put investment in gene therapies at risk.
The compromise ruling over artificially copied DNA is expected to protect existing patents covering synthetic molecules.
Myriad Genetics is at the centre of the legal battle. The company argued that they had 'isolated' the specific cancer related genes thus making them susceptible to intellectual property laws, but their claim was struck down.

IMHO this doesn't hold water. IF and I say IF this were true, then it would only apply to the NEXT generation of genetically modified humans as they would be "created" with the genetic modification from birth. Saying it applies to those "modified" would be like saying adding an aftermarket fuel booster to your car gives the ownership of your car to the fuel booster company. GMO corn is grown from seed and is NOT regular corn that is modified post germination. They in essence created a "new species" of corn by genetic manipulation and this is not the same as what the vaccines have done to humans. UNLESS the modifications are genetically transmitted to offspring they are no different than a person getting a pacemaker.

is that why farmers get their crops/farm stolen if a gmo farm transfers pollen to non gmo farm? becomes patented crops. been happening for over a decade. sounds crazy but the laws on books are already overwhelming for us plebs. just saying...
