GOD'S PROTECTION

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

ROMANS 8:28 KJV

God is able to work all things for our good--even when we go through things that aren't good. Nothing is impossible for God.

Invite Him into your current situation, and make your needs known to Him.

GOD IS MY SALVATION

God, thank You for being my strength and my defense. You are always reliable and Your promises to me are always secure. I have nothing to fear because You are with me. You protect me, strengthen me, and go before me. You are all I need because You are my salvation. Thank You! In Jesus' Name, Amen.

NEARNESS THAT RESHAPES US

What's the most beautiful place you've ever been?

Maybe it was a quiet cathedral, stained glass filling the room with colors, or a forest alive with bird songs and dancing leaves. Wherever your place is, have you ever wished you could stay there forever--surrounded by so much beauty and safety that your soul can finally breathe?

David prays that way in Psalm 27:4:

"I have asked the Lord for one thing,
this is what I desire:
to live in the Lord's house all my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord,
and to contemplate in his temple." (NET)

LET NO ONE LEAD YOU ASTRAY

With so many voices screaming at us from all directions, it is difficult to identify those who would lead us astray. I love social media and the ease of getting information, communicating with friends and relatives - especially the grandchildren - but it is not always easy to distinguish accurate information from reliable sources and information which is both inaccurate and potentially harmful. It seems that if a statement is repeated often enough, it is taken as truth. Scripture gives us a barometer to help us know truth. This first letter of John is one of my favorite books in the New Testament and you will be hear a lot about it in the next few days. It is important to know that the devil is very active in our world. He will never give up trying to win us over to his side. What we can often forget is how devious he can be.

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. I have been gluttonous, lustful, greedy, proud, filled with sorrow, wrathful, vain, and slothful. I have condemned others without even examining myself. I have not always loved my enemies nor loved my neighbors as myself. I can do better and must do better. Forgive me, O Lord, and make me whole! I pray that You strengthen me this day and all days, serving as my refuge against temptation. Deliver me from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Can you think of the last time that you sinned? Sometimes it is hard to remember, but I imagine that some moment of weakness will come into your mind. What did you do after sinning? More importantly, what could you have done differently? James explains what should be done and what you hopefully do: confess your sins and pray for each other. I feel a tremendous sense of relief after I confess to wrongdoing. Bottling it in never allows for the release of negative energy and emotions. Let it out, ask for forgiveness, and pray for each other.
