It's not something that really goes onto the image of Gandalf in Mordor, but it's that he was believed to be dead. And anyone in Mordor that was his ally and friend would have never seen him when he came to Mordor as he arrived after Gondor defeated Mordor's armies. The anguish that Mordor has done, especially to those who never wanted to go there. But made their way to the flames of doom. Always the burden of not knowing is heavy.
