Huge banking changes.....

Like many months prior, I tried to pay my mortgage online using my debit card.
After several failing attempts, I called customer service.

To my surprise, I can no longer use my debit card for this transaction!
My banking institution and mortgage company are the same company!!!!

that is not unusual, mortgage and bank entities are separated under the main umbrella of the bank. Completely different rules, structures, and accounting... might be different for your bank but not different

Yes. But, I have used this process for over 20 years. This just changed for April.

I work for a bank and understand what youre saying... banking systems are all old and as they update things change to lower costs of doing business even if its inconvenient for you.

Just saying when something concrete happens you will know. Changing an old payment policy/process is very common.
