All religious books are basically stories, and human interpretation of (how they perceive) God (at that time). Not all of it is bad, but not all of it is correct as well. There are or were many authors who contributed to the holy books (talking about all religions) so many of they ideas were either built upon over time, or a version of what once was.

God is much bigger than any one book
Seek and ye shall find!

The best advice I can give when looking for the word of G*d is look for simplicity, the indirect nature of things, or the path taken the least -in the face of society

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
