After failures on failures, he is met by a boy and girl who train him. They all wear Kintsune masks which are traditional Japanese fox masks, a sign they were trained under Sakonji Urokodaki. Little does he know they are spirits and not physical people. One day he feels he is up to fighting this boy. In the aftermath he ends up defeating this boy and splitting the boulder. He goes onto the Final Selection to become a demon slayer.
