Macquarie Island is halfway between New Zealand and Antarctica and the earthquake took place at a depth of 10 km.
I'm guessing from the size of the "earthquake" that the White Hats took out a D.U.M.B. or a major hub / tunnel linking New Zealand and Antarctica.
Fits in with Gene Decode has been saying.
