Society was changed through programming. Just watch a kids movie and now with the "new eyes," we have you can see the programming begins with the youngest of children. We NEVER EVER EVER saw a cop at school when I was a teenager. We also promoted a society where it was ok to hand kids screens and then without anyone watching over them...they were free to start screwing with their young impressionable heads unchecked. My youngest just went through an episode since he is in a new school with peer pressure where he just started slipping up daily and dropping grades. After a tlk he "didn't want to be a smart kid cause they get picked on". I pressed for who told him that, his answer..."It's in all the movies all the time". PROGRAMMING! he was dumbing himself down intentionally to not be a target (imagined, it isn't there in RL) for any further peer pressure.
