When we lived in a foreign country during a military coup, I called the US embassy to see what steps to take. Their response was "It is not our responsibility to take care of US Ciitzens. Marines are here to guard papers in case of an invasion." Upto burning them if necessary. Maybe the Marines are just doing their "job" on foreign soil.
