Good! I was always an excellent student, mostly A's in high school, a couple of Bs here & there. When I got to Harvard in the 80s, I got mostly B's . I remember my first mid-term freshman year, in Folklore & Mythology, a topic I was genuinely interested in, but which was considered a "gut" (easy) class.
I got a D on the exam, & despite knowing the material, the Teaching Assistant (a portly, middle-aged redheaded gal with glasses who was not a particularly compelling guide chided, "It doesn't matter what you think" in response to my expressing an opinion on the mid-term.

Harvard has finally moved to stop coddling kids and looks poised to adopt a policy limiting A grades to 20% of the class. The school is right that everyone can't be excellent. There's no point in grades if nobody rises to the top.

That was a low blow, but now I understand. "Education," even at Harvard, was about indoctrination & regurgitation, not original thought or critical thinking. It was just one of many sour notes in my 4 years there.
