1. Capitis diminutio maxima = loss of liberty• Loss of liberty• Person becomes enslaved• Result: total loss of legal personality• All civil rights extinguished
2. Capitis diminutio media = loss of citizenship• Loss of citizenship, but not liberty• Example: exile or banishment• Person still human and free, but no longer a Roman citizen• Civil rights under Roman law gone
3. Capitis diminutio minima = family status changes• Change in family status• Example: adoption, emancipation, marriage transferring paterfamilias• Legal personality remains, but civil relations change.
Result = Civiliter Mortuus (Civil Death/Complete loss of all civil rights)
