JUST IN CASE OF WINTER POWER OUTAGE:
If you don't have a backup generator or fireplace/woodstove to heat your home without electricity, DO THIS TO PROTECT YOUR HOME AGAINST FROZEN WATER PIPE DAMAGE during an extended Power Outage:
Find your MAIN WATER SHUTOFF VALVE NOW. It's usually out front if you're on city water. Might also be in your basement or crawl space. KNOW WHERE IT IS and make sure it works to shut off incoming water to your home.
IF there's an extended power outage and your home is in danger of freezing, SHUT THAT MAIN WATER VALVE OFF, THEN OPEN ALL DRAINS INCLUDING OUTDOOR SPIGOTS to drain as much water out the house as possible before things freeze.
Keep a few gallons of that Pink RV Antifreeze handy, pour into toilet bowls, sinks, showers and tub drains to keep them from freezing/breaking.
Then, when freeze is over, open Main Water Valve slowly, close spigots, watch for ruptured-pipe leaks.
If you find one, shut it off, call a repairman!
It'll save your home.
