Night temps in the teens and 3-8" of snow in progress ....
Thank GOD (and Alice Parker) for the whole house gas furnace!
Grok: Who invented the whole house gas furnace?
The modern whole-house gas furnace as we know it today— a forced-air central heating system that distributes warm air through ducts — was not invented by a single person in one "eureka" moment, but evolved through several key innovations. The most commonly credited inventor is Alice Parker in the context of early conceptual designs, but the practical forced-air gas furnace used in millions of homes today owes more to later engineers and companies.Key milestones:1919 – Alice Parker (African-American inventor)
Patented a natural gas-fired heating system (U.S. Patent No. 1,325,905) that used gas to heat air, which was then distributed through ducts to different rooms.

This was the first known design for a central natural gas furnace with zoned heating.
Important note: Her system did not use a blower (electric fans didn’t exist in homes yet), so air moved by convection only. It was never built commercially in her lifetime, but it is historically significant as the first patent for gas-powered central heating.
