Ingrid, I'm believing more and more that what we're able to do to help, cure or relieve symptoms of illness or PTSD - just not cures and not truly helpful in many if not most cases.
Thinking back, one reason I left the program was the acceptance that the whole psych system did not actually help.
The patients went through the routine, hoping to get out asap.
I was interning at a psychiatric hospital, a good one with a lot of caring professionals but they knew - they talked about how patients got out, went to halfway houses, stayed ok for w while, then returned to the hospital, usually as bad off as their first time there.
As I'm remembering, I keep shaking my head.
I learned a lot but what I witnessed - still smh.

thank you for that. as a nurse during my psych 3 months at a psych hosp. i saw three generations (caused by "doing it" thru the chain link fence as was told). i could not accept psych at all. it just didnt show me cause and effect and cure but pharma maintenance only. i did not do well there but got thru it. as i matured i feel i really felt their souls (ie my star seed awakening) but it was not a place i guess i was ready for. i served well in a limited but helpful position as an OB nurse with young women who just didnt know themselves. saw them thru pre during and post partum. loved it and saw such growth and maturity.. yes you will be helpful going forward as with medbeds it is said the the memories will be gone bur their actions of daily life will need to be worked on until they can connect the two and resolve it.. lot of work but so necessary.. hang in there.. people will need you.. blessings
