This hive was a 4 frame starter kit last year it made 47lbs of honey plus I left 70 lbs on for winter- I split the hive 4 weeks ago taking honey bees and capped bees for another hive.
Yesterday I checked them and I have 1 deep 2 medium supers 90% full of honey.
Nectar flow starts in May here but these super producers are way ahead.
60-70lbs on a deep box
35-40lbs on a medium box
Will pull at least 120 lbs in about a week
Then end of July end of September will harvest again
These are special bred Texas 5000
High producers and very docile
I suspect a lot of mesquite on this batch
It's an absolutely amazing hobby.

My hives died off this winterš They froze out. Our local bee supply is not selling nukes this yearš„ŗ We will hope to capture a wild hive this spring. Our dead hives will provide us with another 200 pounds + of honey from their winter stores that they left behind but I will sure miss my bees š š

Hate to hear that, it is heart crushing I know as I lost my first hive through winter - where are you located at ? we don't get much winter in West Texas
That box on top is a vent right now but in the winter it has a 3" insulation piece that goes in it. I also have burlap sack stapled to the inside of the lid for moisture. Its crazy ho much condensation comes off the heat of the hive in winter. There were plenty of nucs and bees available here in Texas but I heard that some areas were very limited due to the huge loss of hives this year. Many commercial guys just trying to rebuild their own hives.

I live in upper Michigan, Ron. Our weather was very unpredictable this year. I put moisture board underneath the inside lid and insulation. We usually wrap our hives with black tar paper to help warm the hive during the little sunshine we get through the winter months. Ice wind, and snow took its toll.
My bee mentor just lives down the road from us, but due to the cuts in funding, he has restructured and chose to keep all nukes that he created this year. We will take a yearās break if we donāt manage to capture someoneās splits this spring. regardless of whether we have bees or not, we will be planting for their success. Please pray for the beesā¦
